The aim of any speaker cable designer is to produce a cable that allows as much information through as possible, and at the same time ensuring that the cable has a neutral tonal signature. In other words it’s a speaker cable, not a tone control.

This is just what Sarum speaker cable achieves. It’s a speaker cable that will carry information (down to micro dynamic and micro tonal) extremely accurately. It will do so over any length as well.

The Sarum Tuned ARAY has many parts in common with the original Chord Sarum. The Tuned ARAY technology though takes the performance of the cable to a new level. The individual conductors are produced from micro polished silver-plated conductors. Insulation is foamed PTFE and the Sarum cable is fitted with the most efficient shielding we have yet used. The plugs are Chord’s ultra low mass RCA plugs, fitted with precision-machined acrylic plug surrounds.

Listening to Sarum Tuned ARAY analogue interconnect and then switching to Super ARAY resulted in the soundstage opening up to a massive degree, and it did this without losing focus on the voice and instruments in the mix. Too often big means diffuse and vague, but here the superb standard of timing and musical coherence remained and was augmented with a deeper, higher and broader image. That would have been enough for me but Nigel couldn’t restrain himself from playing the as yet unreleased Music interconnect whilst I was there. This uses a type of insulation hitherto unknown to the audio industry that Chord Co has dubbed Taylon because it doesn’t have a commercial brand name.

Sarum speaker cable uses very high quality silver-plated copper conductors and lots of them. It’s a properly heavy speaker cable with an extremely low resistance measurement.

The really impressive thing about Sarum speaker cable though is its ability to disappear into any system it’s used in. Its signature is fundamentally neutral, so what you will hear is your speakers and electronics, not the speaker cable.
